Summary

A desk-and-stool duo that reinterprets Song-dynasty temple language—arches, segmented members, carved rhythm—through contemporary fabrication. Parametric layouts shaped pine, plywood, galvanized steel, acrylic, and leather into ergonomic, refined forms that read traditional yet work modern.

Process

Approach
1. Extracted temple motifs (arches, segments, fillets) into a form reference system; sketched and built paper studies to lock proportions.
2. Made 1:1 PVC/MDF/ply mockups; user tests revealed seat angle and base stiffness gaps → updated 3D files and parametric layouts.
3. Produced parts with partner shops (bent galvanized frames; CNC-cut wood); in-house assembly, joinery tuning, and CMF: sanded pine, laser-cut acrylic accents, stitched leather.

Challenges
Early assemblies creaked and wobbled—reinforced steel-to-ply connections and refined seat/back angles for comfort.

Insights
Heritage reads strongest when structure carries the motif; prioritize ergonomic tests early, then let detailing follow the proven geometry.
